custom MIB poller crashes NPM

This happens about 9 times out of 10.

Fire up the custom MIB poller config, select a node, then when I click ok, NPM just stops responding.

The box is a dual Xeon 3.4 with 3.5Gb's of RAM - system runs at around 10% cpu and 23% memory during normal operation. The mem usage spikes to around 50% during these "hangs" of the custom MIB poller creation.

Anyone else having this issue? Or have any ideas as to how to deal with this?

Yes, we are having the same type of problem.
If we stop/start the Advanced Alerting engin the problem seems to be ok..

If I remove all alerts connected to custom mib pollers it does not happen.

When it does crash our entire orion system becomes un-usable

We have been experiencing the same problem. Once the node is selected it looks like the system manager crashes. However, it does not crash - it stops responding for 30-60 minutes, and then comes back on line and we can continue to add the custom MIBs (although at one MIB per hour it is slow progress).

I have made support aware of this and I am hoping they will rewrite the code for the release of v8.1. We are monitoring more than 8000 elements and I think this may be the cause.

Yes, I have applied the hotfix.

I have tried stopping and restarting the custom MIB polling engine and it continues to happen.

unfortunatley i have the exact same problem described previous
I haven't waited for an hour to see if the engine will start polling again and seems to me that 1MIB/hour doesn't seems a good solution.

The CustomMIB hotfix fixes a different issue. The hotfix for this is the System Manager hotfix.

The System Manager hotfix ? Do you have a link for this? Has anyone tried this already? Does it work?

Our problem seems to be OK at the moment.. it doesnt look like to many other people have had the prob. odd

Is there a hotfix, is there anyone working on this? Could anyone estimate a hotfix/upgrade release?

Sorry.. We have not applied any hotfix.. But we dont seem to have the problem anymore..

Confirmed. I was having the same problem and the hotfix worked for me as well.

So I just applied the hotfix to no avail. Same symptoms/problems as before.

Anybody else apply this and have it not work?

Also, one of the dev guys from Solarwinds contacted me a while back about trying this out for them as a beta test before it was released. I did, but it didn't fix the problem. I told him that it didn't work and the only response I got after that was a ticket number and that someone would get in touch with me.

Right now, I have 13 defined custom pollers polling a total of about 900 devices.

But I had this problem from the very first time I tried to use the custom polling engine.

one of the patches I have applied per SW Tech support seemed to fix the crashes, and made the Custom MIB poller more responsive, though I am also seeing the issue where after node 500 or so, the Custom MIB Poller is not getting any data
