How to attach Hot Standby server to Database server correctly?

Hello there.

I would like to setup very common configuration that would consist of 3 servers:
Primary App server, Database server, Hot Standby APP server.
The idea of setup is the next, If primary goes down then standby should start pooling nodes.
I was trying to connect Standby server to Database server using Orion wizard, but it warned me that another one pooler already working (the poller of Active server) and as result I got two Active Polling Engine instead of one Active and one Hot Stand-By Waiting.
So, could someone point me out the correct manual or even video about how to create my scenario?

One more question,

Configuring a Hot Standby Engine:

>3. Click Configure Hot-Standby.

I cant chose "Configure Hot-Standby" because this option of menu is not "active" - it is grey.

I did not mention that i 'm trying to do this setup using trial licensing.

Could it be because of this?

Installation Documentation:

2. Log on to the server you want to use as the Hot Standby server.

Note: The Hot Standby Engine must be installed on a server other than the primary Orion NPM server.

3. Download or copy the Hot Standby Engine installer to an appropriate location on the server you want to use as the Hot Standby Server.

4. If you downloaded the Hot Standby Engine from the SolarWinds website, navigate to the download executable file, and then launch it.

5. If you received Hot Standby Engine on physical media, browse to the executable file, and then launch the executable.

Does this mean, that i have to download something alse besides "Network Performance Monitor" ?

If you are needing failover protection or disaster recover for an Orion NPM installation that is older than NPM version 10.1, then, yes, you will need to download the Orion Network Performance Monitor v# - Hot Standby Engine from the License Management page of your Customer Portal.

If you are needing failover protection or disaster recover for an installation of Orion NPM version 10.1 or higher, then, you must purchase and then download the Orion Failover Engine.

No, you won't be able to use the Hot Standby Engine with the evaluation version you would download from . The page has the latest version of NPM, and it is only compatible with the Orion Failover Engine.

Hello everybody,

Well, I have to continue discussion, because this job should be done in any case...

I'll try to explain what I have in more detail:

We have working system, that is up and running and based on SolarWinds Orion Core 2010.1.0 SP1, NPM 10.0.0 SP1 (Orion NPM v10 SLX, Windows Server 2003).

It works like a charm:

Polling Engine Active (First server)

Hot Stand-By Waiting (Second server)

Database server (Third server)

We have to reinstall hardware, but before I want to test how hot-standby should works on my test lab, because nobody knows the person
who did the current installation and I don’t want mess up working configuration. I've created a copy of current database on SQL server,
installed test win2008 server on ESX, installed latest Network Performance Monitor. The installation of NPM rebuild database somehow, but i believe
this should be fine. I downloaded SolarWinds-OrionFoE-v6.4.1. also

What next should I do?

My current configuration has two servers, two different IPs, So I want to create the similar configuration.

Is that possible at all? Does this "named" Application protection in terms of Solarwinds?

I'm asking because looks like i do not want create server protection.

Is there any video that shows FoE installations process?

Is there any chance, then TAC will help me if I’ll make them a call or open a ticket/case?
