How do I clean up my database

Hi...my database is massive thanks to a firewall sending hundreds of traps a minute. All these traps are useless and can be discarded. I went into the database manager, selected the Traps namespace and tried to do a "delete from Traps where Community='public' " query but it times out. This Traps namesspace is about 40Gb and I only have a small network and don't need these meaningless traps. Thanks in advance.

Yep David,

All OK now. I restarted the service and sent a test trap from a dusty old OpenView box. Arrived in the Viewer and the Traps table.

If you don't want any of your traps, you can do the following:

- truncate table Traps

- truncate table TrapVarBinds

This will take you back to no traps in the database

where do I run these commands from? In the same text box as you would issue a SQL select statement?

i.e. when you double click on a table and then click on the query button.

Sorry, I did not provide enough detail here. Yes, run it just like you tried the delete query. If you are using the Database Manager that comes with Orion, make sure you change the query to execute in read/write mode.

One other thing...I've executed those two commands and blown out all the Traps and TrapVarbinds.......the box is still receiving traps but none of them are showing up in the Traps and TrapVarBinds tables now.....or do those tables take a while to get populated? I see the pesky traps come into the Trap Receiver but a "select Top 100* from Traps" command still comes back empty. I would like to be able to have traps come into the Table in future just not millions of them at the present time.
