Alert Supression Failed
clisser
We are running ver 7.4
We put in an alert supression on one of our configured alerts but it failed.
We are monitoring about 20 devices at a remote location. We used the pix at the remote end of our connection as the alert supression device. However, when the circuit went down between our locations all of the devices were notified on even though the pix was down as well. We even edited the supression to include if the device is up or down and when the devices came back up all of the notifications were sent out again! Any ideas???????

That's the flaw in the suppression scheme.
If the other devices all "go down" before the PIX, then the suppression is not active.
It all depends on where in the polling cycle you are when the network goes down.
If it just finished polling the PIX and the network goes down, then it polls the other 20 devices, you will most likely not have alert suppression on these devices.
What I have done, is ping the suppression devices (parent nodes) every 2 minutes while leaving the rest of the nodes behind it(Child devices) set to the default 5 minutes.
Hopefully the parent device will go 'down' in Orion before the child nodes.
