Is it possible to create a custom icon with a transparent background in network atlas??

I'm wondering if it's possible to add a custom icon/image into network atlas without it have a white or black box around it then its led. If so how?

I'm looking to do the same thing where my icon is the province/state and I want to lay it over a larger Canada/US map as a nested map.

But so far any icon I create has a white box/background around it.
