APEs and LDAP

I have an APE in a highly secure network zone that is attempting to make an LDAP connection (port 389) to a Domain Controller I have in another network zone. This is occurring approximately every 30 minutes . 2 attempts every 30 minutes about 8 seconds apart. My firewall engineer has said that only my server in that zone is doing this. I don't know what an APE would be doing trying to hit a Domain Controller? Between myself and the Windows platform engineer, we can't understand what is causing this and I'd like to rule out any Orion/SolarWinds function of the server. Any insight, suggestion or advice on this would be greatly appreciated. FWIW, there is a DC in the same secure network zone that the APE lives in.

I have seen this happen in my environment too.

It's almost like the job of authenticating a user login to the console goes into a queue and the next engine that gets it makes the LDAP request, never worked out if this was true or desired behaviour but every so often it rears its head and becomes the cause of a bunch of account lock outs.
