Orion V7 - Remote Console
neillowe
I currently use the solarwind toolset but we are looking at a management package and I have thought of Orion. The team I work in is based in the US and UK. We need something that can be accessed by all for all functions. Does Orion V7 support a remote console for the Map maker etc. or are there still some functions where you need to be in front of the console.
Any comments would be appreciated.

Mapmaker V7 works better with RDP now than V6.4 did, but still not 100%.

Depending on what kind of function you're looking at, it might be easier to do any of the console work via Remote Desktop. The only problem I'm aware of is the 8-bit video limition with Win2k servers. This might not be an issue with the Win2k3 Server.
The remote manager is a per-seat license, I believe, which would make it impractical for wide deployment, which would make RDP your best bet.

Can someone confirm this on a Win2K3 server?

Just thought I would chime in here.. to plug for the product my company develops... Symantec PcAnywhere...
Also, you don't have the issue with the 8-bit video limiation as you do with temincal services

I've been using Orion for about a year now and had some issues with Remote Desktop. I started using VNC a few months back and haven't had any issues since.

Definately VNC. I use VNC for my Linux, Windows and Netware boxes.
pcanywhere is too slow!

I wasn't going to say it, but now that it has been said; PCanywhere is painful to use, afer having used RDP. Over a 60ms latency e100 link it takes 2-4 seconds for anything to refresh on the screen. RDP is just like being there.
I use RDP now for modding all my maps.
