Monitoring Multicast traffic
klemen
Hello !
I have a L3 switch and I would like to monitor multicast streams that are comming to port "26". I would like to see a graph for each multicast address and not only the total multicast traffic graph. Im using evaluation version of Solarwinds Engineer's Edition 7. I cant find a proper tool in this version for this kind of monitoring. Please let me know if you know the answer or which software do you suggest for monitoring multicast traffic.
Tx for your answers,
Klemen

I may be wrong, but to see each multicast conversation you would need a sniffer, not a statistics grapher. The switch will only maintains counters for such packets. Solarwinds reports and graphs on those counters. To see the combined counters, and more importantly to have a baseline so you know whats normal, and then what is abnormal for your network: Use the SNMP realtime grapher to graph the stat(s) you want to see. The Real-Time Interface Monitor also has a dropdown that will show broadcast/multicast on the interfaces of your device. Right-click the stat you want to graph and presto, the graph starts running.

For cisco, this counter is available, like broadcast.
So why not adding this counters in orion?
example :
