Network Performance Monitor (NPM)
Orion and CatOS
bobdonnelly
I have five new 6513's running in hybrid mode (CatOS 8.4.5 on Supervisor 2 modules and IOS 12.1.22(E6) on the MSFC's. My version of Orion NPM is 7.8.139.
We also have several other Cisco devices (some native IOS and others Hybrid but different versions) that we are monitoring without any issues. However, recently we had a complete scheduled powerdown of the building that these new 6513's live in. Some people here in upper mgmt don't want us to drain the UPS's (thats a whole other story) and so we scheduled shutdowns of these devices. When they were shut down, I expected Orion to send messages for everything we're monitoring. However, nothing came out at all.
We do have alerts setup on the managed devices to e-mail us when something goes down and I've double checked that these are selected in the management interface.
It also seems like none of the interfaces are showing the correct utilization when looking at the device level. When you drill down to the interface however, those values do appear. I would especially expect to see my interconnect back to my core switches to show more than 0% utilization, especially since the device is pretty much full of PC's and IP phones.
Am I missing some stupid setting here, or is this version of the CatOS not suuported within the version of NPM we're running?
Thanks in advance for your help.
-Bob

Perhaps your e-mail server or gateway was down when the power was shutdown?
I can't really comment on the utilization issue, as I have not seen this issue.
