A count of device type

Question

Hi all,

Looking for a quick reply hopefully.

I want to know if it is possible to run a query in Database Manager or something similar that gives me a quick, instant count / break down of the device types I have on an Orion platform.

To better explain / describe what I mean -

On one of our Orion platforms there are 879 nodes.  I have been asked to give a break down of the different device type in the following way -

Number of switch - #

Number of routers - #

Number of servers - #

Is this possible via the Database Manager?

The device type gives you the model number if supplied by the manufacturer in the SNMP query.  You could create a custom property tied to each device and give it a more generic name such as Router/Switch/Server which then you could report on.

We do not log whether the Device is a Router, Switch or Server. What you can do is create a Custom Property and enter in the information for each device, then you would be able to group the information on Node Management page and it will then give you a count.

I dont think you quite understood.

I said devie TYPE not vendor, which is why I said Switch, router, server etc not cisco, juniper, 3com etc.

Doesnt matter anyway, had a reply from solarwinds, apparently it isnt possible
