It certainly does, however you will likely need to manually configure SNMP on the ESXi box (Configuring SNMP v1/v2c/v3 Using ESXCLI 5.1 | VMware vSphere Blog - VMware Blogs)

I would suggest upgrading to the latest version of NPM (10.5) and using the VMWare API-based polling however. Just upgrade, and run a new discovery of your VMWare hosts.
