How to create cutom views suitable for specific network devices

Hi there,

I want to create custom views in NPM suitable for type of network devices like Access Switches, Core Switches, Nexus/Spine/Leaf Switches, Routers, Cisco ASA,... etc

Customization here is to show the most related information to the device itself.  For example, for ASA how which resource to choose OR create (and how to create) an object resource to show static translation, or top 10 objects hit, or top 10 ASA rules hit.. and so on.

Other example, for Spine switches, some resource to show VxLAN mapping..

So let's say best practice design for custom views, not the default/general view which NPM provides.

Sometimes it can be a dangerous game getting too deep into building out custom views per device type.  I frequently end up working with clients who had a former solarwinds admin who created a bunch of different views, but each view has such a mix and match of different resources and layouts that it becomes a real pain for anyone who isn't them to know where things are.  Inevitably, that person moves on after a few years and none of the users who are left has any idea why some devices will show them one set of info and others will have something completely different.  Also as you add new models of devices people forget to associate the new devices with the tailored views, so the core switch from last hardware refresh gets the custom view but then they build out a new DC and the new switch models still show the generic default and people don't remember to keep up on it. 

With all those warnings out of the way, most of the metrics you mentioned above would be added as custom Universal Device Pollers, once you have the pollers set up on the devices you want you just add the universal device tablees/gauges/charts to the view you made.
