Extreme XOS discovery slow...

The posts from the old forum aren't available here so I need to restart an old thread: I've got Extreme XOS devices that NPM is slow to discover (3 days and running...) Cirrus can discover the resources of the same exact device in seconds so this does not appear to be an Extreme issue.

Have other people seen this? Is there a workaround? I'm running XOS 11.5.2.10 and 8.0.2 NPM.

We're also seeing this behavior with our Summit 450s running XOS 11.6.2.9 - it takes at least a day to list the interfaces on a switch in Orion 8.0.2, but MRTGs cfgmaker can do it in seconds. I opened a ticket with Solarwinds support and their answer was that the issue was sent to development and would be fixed in the next release of Orion.

We are seeing the same slowness. Any Extreme XOS device using SNMP v1, 2 or 3. I have also seen the same slowness on any older Extreme equipment (Black Diamond 6808s) that are running SNMP v3. With SNMP v2 or 1 there are no issues with the same devices.

Yes, we too are experiencing the same slowness when discovering our XOS Extreme BlackDiamond 8800s and Summit x450s from Orion v8.0.2. Cirrus can discover without issue on interfaces, etc.

Since I found an Extreme thread, does anyone know how to make Cirrus "download" configs off of Extreme switches? I believe that since the syntax is different on a Cisco (sh run or sh start) vs. Extreme (show config), that's why I'm experiencing this issue. So I guess I am looking for a way to modify the "download" feature to include more than just "show running" or "show start-up". Any ideas?

My first reply didn't have any of the content in it so here goes again:

Go to the program directory where you installed Cirrus. You'll find a directory called "DeviceType" where one file has the word Extreme in it. Open the file and correct the XML entry for config download.

Will, That Device Type setting worked like a charm! You're my hero! I have created new *.ConfigMgmt-Commands" for other vendors like Packeteer and Meru Networks. Very nice!
