We have two instances of NPM installed for doing our Network SLA metrics.
Both are running Win2003 Server and SQL 2005 (although on one the SQL is on a different machine, the other one will when I get time).
I'm looking at upgrading to ver 10.x and looking at the installations I've noticed a huge difference in database size. I don't know if this is due to them being different versions at the moment or not.
Server 1:
NPM v9.0.0 SLX
Elements: 4847
| Retain Detail Stats: | 45 Days |
| Retain Hourly Stats: | 45 Days |
| Retain Daily Stats: | 180 Days |
| Retain Events: | 60 Days |
Database size: 7+ GB
Server 2:
NPM v9.5.1 SLX
Elements: 5026
| Retain Detail Stats: | 45 Days |
| Retain Hourly Stats: | 45 Days |
| Retain Daily Stats: | 180 Days |
| Retain Events: | 60 Days |
Database size: 40+ GB
Both servers are using simple recovery model.
I've been looking through some posts and it seems like that one database is extremely bloated. There are SQL Maintenance plans that run nightly. A manual shrink task shows that the large db would only reclaim ~500MB.
We are NOT running Syslog or IPAM on these servers.
Both installations are using the same polling/interval settings as they are supposed to be redundant systems (despite the discrepancy in element counts).
So basically, I'm not sure whether I need to look into to this prior to the updgrade or if the version difference can account for the difference in database size (I doubt it accounts for all of it).
Any comments/suggenstions would be welcome.
Thanks,
BobL.
