Can't get the web console to work

Hi folks...does anyone have a quick checklist of what to check when the Orion webconsole doesn't work?

I am launching a browser from the same machine as SolarWinds is installed on so network issues should not come into play here. I put http://<localhost ip> in the URL field and get: The usual page cannot be displayed message. I'm not much of a Windows guru so any help would be great. I did check the IIS in "manage my computer" and it shows two websites...default and SolarWinds (which is running). After that I don't really know what to do.

if both default and solarwinds web sites are running on the same port, usually 80, you need to stop the default web site. This happened to me after i upgraded, for some reason it started the default web site. also you need to go in to iis manager and properties of the solarwinds web site, under web site identification you need to either check all unassigned or a specific ip address. if a specific ip address is selected, try entering that ip address for the url such as http://x.x.x.x and see what happens

Don't have a solution, but after I upgraded to 8.5 and then 8.5.1 when we tried to connect to the web console we got a default DirectLink page and could not get to the normal login page.. If you use DirectLink this might be a clue. Had to get a SW techie to dig us out. -Debbi
