list main interface on node details

Hi,

Is there any way I can show the throughput of a given interface on a node detail page? if i have a router with a single wan link, then that interface is effectively the throughput of the router itself. i'd like to be able to see this at the same point where i can see the things like CPU load and all that non-interface specific stuff. essentially i guess i want to define a "main" interface nicely.

Have you considered either of the following node details web resources?

Current Percent Utilization of each Interface

Traffic and Percent Utilization of each Interface

As an alternative, you could create a report in Report Writer and add the report to the node details view(s). This way you could also filter on just the single WAN interface by means of associated custom properties, interface type, or some combination thereof.

Ah so there's a thing called Report Writer. looks useful but a bit of a learning curve by all accounts. i've seen the other usage summaries, but i'd prefer a full on graph to leap off the page. using a report like what i assume is possible, we could actually promote our mauin WAN links to the front page even...

Report Writer will give you a single value (current, average over time, peak), but not a graph as you mentioned.

If you're looking for a graph similar to those found in the interface details views, that's another story. I suppose one could write a web resource to display an interface graph on a summary or node details view, but you would have to consider ways to specify which interface(s) to display. In the case of node details views, this would be easier due to the fact that there is only one interface per node, and the nodeID can be passed to the web resource. To place multiple graphs on a summary view, you may have to create a web resource for each interface specifically. That gets a little ugly unless you have a relatively small number of interfaces to display, and they are fairly static.

This is not something Orion is designed to do out of the box.

it could be messy if done wrong, but as a generic thing, to be able to take absolutely any object from type of page and insert it anywhere else you want as long as you manually provide that implicitly provided information in it's original context, you'd get a lot better flexibility. i guess i'm seeing things in a different way though.
