Alert suppression during a certain time period?

Hi,

Is it possible to add an alert suppression that firts checks if node name starts with XXX and then if time is between 10.59AM and 11:59AM.

I can find the node name part ok, but there does not seem to be a way of checking what time it is in the alert suppression tab.

Note that time of day will not help me since I only want to suppress alarms for a certain group of hosts during that time, not all of them.

That's correct. You will probably have to create a separate alert for this group of nodes and use the Time of Day settings.

That's a real shame, I also have the this issue.

We have an application where we have to stop some components at 21:30 - 22:00 each night. I currently have 1 monitor set up to send an alert out when an application component stops (for all applicationds), with an accompanying reset. What I'd ideally like is if the time is between 21:30 and 22:00 suppress the alert for the application where the name = "NameOfApp".

Having to configure 2 monitors would overcome this, however it does complicate things considerably. I've needed to trace back which monitor is sending which alert a number of times and which proved onerous, so I now include the name of the for monitor in the alert text.

Add to this that we have a scheduled maintenance time slot every day between 07:00 - 08:00, this is when we do all our maintenance work, so I'd like to suppress all alerts between these hours, but I'd still like alerts from 0:00 - 07:00 and 08:00 - 23:59. Using the Time of Day settings would mean I have to set up 2 lots of every monitor, this would mean my list of monitors doubles.

Could I offer a suggestion that a time element is added into the available logic of advanced alerts conditions ASAP ? This would help my situation out considerably.

You could create a Yes/No custom property in the database for these nodes and then set up a stored procedure which updates this property on a daily basis (or whatever timeframe you like) during the hours you don't want to be notified. You can then set a suppression based on this, or just another trigger rule.

That's great thinking, I like it however we have a number of teams that maintain these monitors with varying degress of SQL knowledge. If the functionality was within Advanced Alerting to add a condition that says if time > 07:29 and < 08:00 then the conditions for each monitor are in one easy to understand location / format.

I will run this by our guys here and let you know their thoughts. Thanks for suggestion.
