Feature Suggestion/Request for NPM

Question

I have a cisco product called CiscoView here in house. It's mostly pretty poorly designed and I've moved almost all of its functions into NPM/NCM. However, there's one feature I really like that I wish I could do in Orion. (Maybe I just don't know how to do it).

It basically has SVGs of most of the cisco chassis and using SNMP it lights up all the various ports, which are in use, etc. It's really handy particularly when I'm attempting to guide non-techies through plugging something in. Here's an example of a 3825:

Anyway I don't know if anyone else has used something like this, but it would be real nice to have available.

Have to agree with guantus on the amount of work this would take.

Ideally SW should integrate something similar to the stencils from NetZoom (www.netzoom.net/.../index.php) into Atlas.  Then when I drag a node onto the map it uses the correct model stencil and maps all the ports.  Giving users a view of the node and all active/down ports.  IMO.

yikes; given how slow the map loads I can't imagine what trying to put the Nexus units (Nexuses? Nexii?) or some other type of core on there would do to load times; plus I'd have to do object mappings every router and switch I wanted to monitor - and I'm looking at a couple hundred of them at a minimum

It's a neat idea but the amount of work doesn't seem worth it; I don't really have a week or two to invest in it. Thanks though!

it takes some time/work, but you can set up SW to do this in the maps.
when I rolled mine out, I took the 6500 chassis, put a "blade map" per blade which pointed to another map.
the nested map had an object picture of the blade itself, then I dropped port objects over each port with graphics of the top and bottom port.

Once I had one blade set up, I just saved as "next blade name" and replicated that way, only having to change the object mappings for each port on the blade I was working on.
