How many virtual servers do I need for NPM SL250, SAM AL 1100, NTA SL250 and VNQM SLA5

Hello,

I need help with planning, I’m going to setup NPM sl250, SAM AL 1100, NTA SL250 and VNQM SLA5.

How many virtual machines do I need and how many databases, which products I can install on the same machine? What would be optimal option for my scenario.

You just need one Orion server and one SQL server.

Orion Server

Quad core processor, 2.5Ghz or better

Two HDD's, in RAID 1, with separate OS and application partitions

8-16GB RAM

SQL Server

Dual quad core processors, 3.0Ghz or better

Two HDD's in RAID 1 for OS

Six HDD's in RAID 1+0 for database

16-32GB RAM

Whats about NTA Flow Storage?

For production environments, SolarWinds recommends that SolarWinds NPM, Microsoft SQL Database and NTA Flow Storage Database are hosted on separate servers.

You need three. One for the application which will also host your web services, a SQL DB server and a dedicated NTA server.

NTA does not run on SQL, it's a proprietary DB. That is why it's a standalone server.

I forgot about that. Personally, for a smaller installation such as yours, I would put NTA on the SQL server. Ideally it is best suited on its own server, but given your size and potential increases costs by spinning up another server, IMO it should be OK on SQL server. If doing this, however, I would use 32GB of RAM on SQL server. You could also put on Orion server, but personally I would choose SQL over Orion. You can find more info here:
