Hi,
A colleague and I have moved the SolarWinds database off of the same machine as the polling agent. We did this is a fashion that was not suggested by the migration text at
www.solarwinds.net/.../Server-Migration.htm
that is, we brought across the original data file and imported it into SQL Server 2005 on another machine.
After doing this, we were still successful at getting the Database Manager to point to the remote server and NetPerfMon database.
Afterward, while running the Configuration Wizard, we are able to get past the step of authenticating to the database with login that is mapped to the dbo user on the NetPerfMon database. After selecting the NetPerfMon database and pressing next, the connection to the database times out while the config wizard tries to verify the structure of the database - it is explicitly a timeout error message that pops up - we are able to authenticate perfectly fine.
My question is - is there something in the way that we copied the database to the remote server that made it unusable by SolarWinds? - I notice that few other posts in this forum mention migrating the database in this way. Does SW somehow flag the database while doing a Database Manager backup and restore? If so, this would mean our method was the problem - I highly doubt it, but it couldn't hurt to weed out the possibility.
If anything we are planning on migrating in the suggested manner soon - just thought this may save time.
Thanks a lot,
