Network Performance Monitor (NPM)
Single System to Distributed System
BryanBecker
We currently run a single server with both poller and DB. We need to split this up between 4 pollers and a DB. Has anyone done this migration before and have any recommendations? I don't want to lose the data so I will need to reassign the devices to a different poller. We also want to be sure we have a single web site that has all the data on it.
Thanks.

There's a tool which you can use to assign different nodes to different pollers ... so it shouldn't be a problem. I think all the pollers need to be down when assignments are changed though ... but I could be wrong.
Unrelated question though ... why not do 3 pollers and have a hot standby ready in case one of them decides to quit or needs maintenance?

I have actually done this migration, and it was completely painless. Even though the polling engines need to be down while reassigning elements to them, the overall process was rather quick (less than 5 minutes) and like I said above completely painless... Just read and understand all the instructions prior to starting the migration. Support can walk you thru this in a matter of minutes also.
I have had a freaky issue with the Hot StandBy server ever since 7.8.5, but it could be an OS issue.... I'm having the HSB server re-imaged this weekend...

Hey Bryan,
This is Eric Martin from the SolarWinds Support Team. If you would like, give me a call I'd be more than happy to get you squared away with what needs to happen to go to the distributed polling systems. you can reach me at our new Toll Free number 866-530-8040 my extension is 2113, however as you know there is no way to dial an extension from an outside line with our current phone set up.
