Network Performance Monitor (NPM)
Seen this? Maps showing all grey...
BryanBecker
We have V7 and on the Orion site we have a USA map and its shows up as a grey square. I can use Map Maker and the image appears correctly as the USA map with the states and white borders. I can remote intot he server and open the gif and it looks like it should but for some reason it's messed up when it appears on the Orion site. I checked the permissions and they appear fine.
Anyone else having this problem?

Try overwriting the gif file in the \maps folder with the original USA.gif file.
Look for the gif in the following location:
\\Program Files\SolarWinds\Network Performance Monitor V7\Maps
It should have the same name as your map.
Then copy the original gif from the folder:
\\Program Files\SolarWinds\Network Performance Monitor V7\Maps\Backgrounds\Maps.800
or where ever you got the background from and put it in you maps folder and rename it
to <mapname.gif>
I find the first time I open a map created by RDP'ing into the server it gets messed up.
Once I have done this, it fine from then on, even after editing the map.

All the files in the Maps\Background directory are .jpg, not .gif. So how's that suppose to work?

I have been using custom gifs for my backgrounds (maps I've found on the internet),
so I didn't notice the included maps are in jpg format. I guess you'll have to convert
the background map from jpg to gif. Visio is one program among many that can do this.
I save all my background gifs to a custom folder, and then overwrite the ones in the
maps folder if they get messed up. So far I've only had to do this the first time I create
the map using RDP to access the program in V7. In V6.4 I had to do this every time I edited
the map, or else use PCanywhere to access the Mapmaker app (the server is 3000 miles away
from my desk).

Ok..I took the .jpg and saved it as .gif and did what you said but it still shows up as a grey box. Frustrating...
