Can you add custom properties to Resources on the Home Page

We have a custom field call IMPACT we use to indicate the level of impact is caused if node went down. I was able to separate the PROD (levels 1-3) and NON Prod (levels 4-5) with sql filtering into separate resource windows. But I am wondering if there is a way to just list the custom field next to the node and sort by that custom property to list ascending. see example below. This way i can keep all down nodes in one resource and gives us and management a quick glance for critical nodes.

put all this together to get the result i was looking for. (I revised the instructions as i realized i was missing some key pieces to get the Links.)

SolarWinds - Create Custom Down Nodes Resource window on Dashboard with links, and custom fields of your choice. (Impact level and App Support Team are in this query script)

Customize page

Add Custom Table Resource and configure the datasource with the custom SQL query below in BOLD

select Caption AS NodeName, StatusLED, IMPACT, Application_Support_Team, 'http://watchbox.hhcsystem.org/Orion/NetPerfMon/NodeDetails.aspx?NetObject=N:'+CAST(Nodes.NodeID as varchar(256)) as 'DetailsURL'

from [dbo].[Nodes]

where STATUS= '2' AND IMPACT IS NOT NULL

order by IMPACT ASC

then add columns except for the DetailsURL

Edit the advanced section for STATUSLED ; ensure that you click add display settings > choose generic icon & replace its contents with: /Orion/images/StatusIcons/Small-{0}

Also Edit the advances section for NODENAME, Click Add Display settings > Choose Details Page Link and Check off Enable Tooltips to get the pop-outs when hovering

Hit SUBMIT

Clicking Edit allows you to edit the All Nodes - Tree Resource Title and group displayed nodes into three levels, using any of the following node properties: Note: Any custom properties defined for nodes will also be listed as grouping criteria.

You can definitely group them and show in ascending order. The value of the custom property isn't shown, so that part of your goal isn't addressed here. Believe you would want to create a report from scratch if that is important.

That is pretty much what i have done but you don't have to expand down the tree to see what node is red. I'm looking for something in your face that is easily seen at a glance. I could just use a nodes down resource for each level but was trying to consolidate it into one resource window

The text on your screenshot says sorted by 'location, machine type'... Why not custom property 'impact' as first criteria, location as second criteria, and machine type as third criteria. Apologies if I'm mising something.

EDIT: After looking at your first image and your second, it would seem that sorting the first resource by custom property (and presenting as Ascending) makes more sense than doing anything with the all nodes tree.

it is by impact then status I just didn't change the title name. The title is just a text field it doesn't change according to what you have selected for the Grouping Nodes

Try adding a custom table resource

and configure the datasource with a custom SQL query like the one below:

don't forget to edit the advanced section for ICMPSTATUS ; ensure that you click add display settings > choose generic icon & replace its contents with:

Hit SUBMIT

See if the resource looks fine. Hope this helps.

Hey thanks that's close. The last thing is to have the Node link so management can click on the node link for more info like in the Down Nodes Resource.

Just go into the "Advanced" setting for the column you want to be clickable and select "Details Page Link" from the "Add Display Settings:" drop down

Yea i tried that but then got an error "'Details Page Link' data presenter requires 'db|DetailsUrl' field(s) to be present within the datasource"

I worked with my SQL guru and he gave me this. It works perfectly. Links and everything, Figure i can add the ContactName from custom properties and help desk knows exactly who to call without having to drill into the node.

I'd like to figure this out for the "Applications Down" resource window. Have what is currently in the resource shown below but add the AppImpact level. If anyone can help me get started with a script that would be great. Can't seem to find the tables that stores the data for the default fields Application Name, Monitor Status and downtime.

Does anyone know of a way of saving the custom table resource and use it on other views instead of having to recreated for each view?

There are a few feature requests created for this (feel free to vote). Don't believe it's possible at this time. (Perhaps I'm wrong though...)
