Advice on Upgrade
Stewart_Yates
I am looking to Upgrade our Orion from Version 7.5 up to 7.8.4
Has anyone had any difficulty with this or is it straight forward?
Also once complete I intend to add Application and Wireless Managament Packs. Similarly will they go on the same hardware andare there any complications?
Finally I wish to add the NetFlow functionality . As scrutinizer is integrated that is of greatest interest but again was wondering how you guys found the product and if again it could be installed on the same hardware as Orion.
We currently have Orion and the web interface on a separate box with a SQL2000 database server behind it.

I just did the exact same upgrade last week, with no issues.
Just install right over top of V7.5.
As for Netflow, this is a VERY DB intensive app, and as such, requires it's own dedicated server which includes it's own MySQL DB.

Netflow....I assume you are talking about the Crannog products? I use Netflow Monitor and Netflow Tracker. Netflow Monitor performs reasonably well on a server I have running other apps. Netflow Tracker on the other hand DOES require a lot of processing power. There are some freeware Unix apps that do the same thing but, being in a Windows shop, I haven't looked into them (and am VERY satisfied with the Crannog products).

Cronnog is a different Netflow product than Scrutinizer. I eval'ed both and Cronnog blew Scurtinizer away. Scrutunizer has pretty graphs, but Cronnog presents the info much better.

Hi Dan,
I've tried 4 different Windows based NetFlow products (including Crannog NetFlow Tracker), and I've found them all to be quite DB intensive when doing a query. Most of them call for a minimum 3 disk Raid 5 configuration for the DB disk. My Orion SLX server DB disk is already running beyond capacity
as far as disk read & write queues, and it certainly couldn't handle another 20-60Gb DB with some complex queries.
