Upgrading from NPM 8.0.67 with Broadband Modem Management Module and CMTS module to NPM 10

Hello,

 

I'm in the process of documenting an upgrade path for our NPM 8.0.67 with the Broadband Modem Management and CMTS module. I understand that those modules are no longer supported so my thought was this:

PtoV the current NPM frontend node, and then remove everything out of it but the CMTSes and cable modems.

Uninstall the modules from the 8.0 NPM server.

Upgrade to 8.5.1

Upgrade to 9.0

Upgrade to 10.0

Does that sound like a correct upgrade path? I would probably clone my DB as well just so I don't touch my current production DB.

 

Has anyone done an upgrade from 8.0 to 10.0 yet? Feedback appreciated!

What you have here is close to what is recommended. You don't need to uninstall anything, however. As noted in the section "Installing SolarWinds Orion Network Performance Monitor : Upgrading Orion Network Performance Monitor" of the SolarWinds Orion NPM Administrator Guide:

After upgrading to Orion NPM 8.5.1, you can then upgrade to Orion NPM 9.1 SP5 before upgrading to any newer Orion NPM versions.

Specific instructions for completing an upgrade are available in the SolarWinds Customer Portal. For more information about upgrading Orion NPM, particularly if you are upgrading an Orion NPM installation that includes Orion modules, log in to your SolarWinds Customer Portal at www.solarwinds.com/customerportal/, click License Management, and then click Upgrade Instructions under the license listing of any Orion product

SolarWinds recommends that you backup your database before any upgrade. For more information about creating database backups, see the “Moving Your Orion NPM Database” technical reference.
