Network Performance Monitor (NPM)
Device shown as down when really up.
snowjay
I have two devices that always show as down (never shown as up) even though they are both up. I can ping both of them from the NPM server and one has snmp enabled and I am able to poll it and see interface stats. What might be causing them to show being down even though they are clearly up?

Have you resolved this issue? I have the same problem and am looking for a response.

I'm just curious...but are you using the correct SNMP community names? Is the SNMP agent on the device configured to allow the IP for your Orion device access to the Mibs? If any SNMP requests cannot access the devices in question...then I would think they would show up as being down. Check to see if you have any access lists on the routers preventing SNMP.

A device can show as down and still be polling via SNMP.
It's the ICMP poll which determines if the device shows
as up or down.
We had a situation like this when we applied ICMP filters
on our routers to block ICMP on our backbone.
The device showed as down, but stats were still being collected
via SNMP.
I can't explain why the device would show as down, even though
you can ping it from from the NPM server ???
What type of device is it ? Have you tried removing the text from
the ICMP packet and send a smallest possible size packet ?

Removing the text worked for me too. Any text up to 64 bytes worked fine but over 64 it would drop. Go figure.
