View nodes by custom attribute?

Question

We're adding custom attributes to our nodes that list what they do (for our help desk folks).  Our nodes typically display by the node / hostname.  We'd like to setup a custom view for the help desk to be able to see, say, top 10 utilization reports by node - but display the custom attribute instead of the node name.  For example, if we have node HAVIS-01XLTB01 with custom attribute "Exchange Server", we'd like to create a separate view for the help desk that would always display this node as "Exchange Server", not as HAVIS-01XLTB01.

I searched the forums and couldn't find anything, and short of creating duplicate nodes, I can't figure out how to get this done.

Any thoughts?

Dear scteran, Since I only make a small network for trial before, I only have not more than three devices. If what you mean is just want to show different nodes in different view(this view I mean in something like "Node Detail", "Interface Detail", that kind of view). You can somehow "hardcode" some scripts in the "Custom HTML or Text". But you must know the value of "netobject" for that particular nodes and the value of "viewid" you want that node go to. Below is the example for node1(netobject=N:1), node2(netobject=N:2) and node3(netobject=N:3) and goto viewid=35, viewid=34 and viewid=36 respectively. The script will continue to loop until the node1 is displayed with viewid35. And in those views you created, you can modify the display name as you want (I mean the left hand corner of the browser) say, "Exchange Server", but I don't know is it what you want.
