Network Performance Monitor (NPM)
Status not being passed in node groups
skaczkowski
All,
I'm playing with a trial of Orion in hopes of getting rid of Openview (YEAH!!) and have a question about node grouping in the web interface.
I have a number of nodes setup that are in two different locations and I want to group them by the following:
Region
Building
Closet
I went into the Custom Property editor and edited each of the nodes to reflect that information. I then went into the web interface and selected each of the levels of grouping.
Now when I go back to the main status page under 'All Nodes' I see my 2 regions as expected (both are green), but if I expand one of the regions to see the Buildings underneath it (I'm actually using floors on this one) all of my floors are blinking yellow/red but the nodes under them are green.
What gives?
Seems that there is a disconnect between the levels for some reason, am I completely missing something? If remove one of the levels things seem to be ok, it's just when there are 3 levels it doesn't work right..
Any help is greatly appreciated..
BTW, the little I've used Orion I already like it MUCH better than Openview...
Thanks!

Hey Steve - welcome to the Software that is Solarwinds - Orion.
What you will find, is that as soon as you start grouping devices, any group that is not completely configured will flash yellow, telling you that there are devices in that group with no custom property. In order for everything to show green, every device in each group must have a custom property configured.
I actually find this a good tool to pick up when new devices have been added, by the rest of my team. They generally forget to add all the custom properties, & this helps me identify at a glance which nodes are not configured fully.
