Report Writer per Device

Has anyone out there built a resource where it's possible to utilize report writer to generate an availability report, but on a per-device basis?

To better explain myself, I would like to be able to pass a variable via the website (or launch the report via the node.details page) where I could generate a yearly, monthly, daily uptime report, but only for that specific device. This is for our sales force to pump out uptime reports for client devices we manage for SLA reporting. I want to avoid writing a seperate report per device that I need to click within the /Reports folder. So, link within the NodeDetails page, click on yearly, and it opens a new window with that report, but for only that device, not every device, etc, etc...

Is there any way to do this? Seems like it might be a useful feature, so I get the feeling I'm missing something....

I think we can bang something together for that. The key trick is that the normal report page (/NetPerfMon/Report.asp) will take a net object in the URL if one is present. So if you build a report like Caroline described, you can get it to do macro replacement (like ${NodeName} or ${NodeID}) for a specific node by adding &NetObject=N:123 to the end of the URL.

Then it's just a matter of conveniently generating links for the various reports that you want to run. I'd use the Custom HTML resource (more flexible) or the User Links resource (simpler to set up).

First, add a Custom List of Reports resource to the page and pick the availability reports (set up with built-in macro-based filtering as Caroline described) that you want. Then copy those links into the User Links resource (or do view-source and copy the <a href> tags into the Custom HTML resource if you went that route). Edit the links to append &NetObject=N:${NodeID} to each one. Now when you click the links the node id from the host page will be supplied to the report.

Yes, there is..

Create the report in Report Writer as if you were creating the report for all of your devices.

In the "Filter Results" tab, add a line like this... Node Name is equal to ${NodeName}

In your website, add a new "Report From Report Writer" resource to your Node Details view, and assign your new report to this resource - you should see the resource populate with data for the node in question only.

You can also do this with an existing report. When you edit the "Report From Report Writer" resource, just add a Filter like:

Nodes.NodeID=${NodeID}

I knew there was something simple I was missing... These are close, but not quite what I was hoping for.

These generate results from a report within the Node Details page of each device. What I was hoping for was a "Custom List of Reports" where for each Node, I give a list of availability reports (weekly, monthly, yearly, etc...) and when I click on those reports, it passes the current NodeID to the report when it runs and outputs different results depending on the report chosen. Or click the report writer, and choose a drop down list of the device you want to run the report against.... :-)

I don't think on the Custom List, the NodeID gets passed through. Otherwise I'm having to generate each report everytime the device page is refreshed.

Any other suggestions?
