My Network Latency Bar Chart Showed a Spike but now What?

What troubleshooting or best practices does everyone do when you see a spike in your latency chart?  The spike seemed to have happened to all devices at the same time and did not last long; I have my chart set at 30-minute increments and the spike happened only at one of those increments.

You have to approach this from a couple different thought processes.  First of all, you probably won't have time to hunt down every short term blip that you see, so did this spike have any kind of business impact or is it an recurring issue to be worth your time?

The next think to keep in mind is that if the same spike appears on every device you should be focusing on something that is either common to your whole network, or something in the path between the Solarwinds polling engine and the rest of the network.  For example if the switch that is closest to your Solarwinds server experienced congestion then it causes a delay on all the polls happening at that time.
