We have a lab setup here that we would like to be able to have Solarwinds setup to test in before we go live with products. Does anyone know if Solarwinds does Dev licensing or would we have to purchase everything we own again? Thanks -Dave
If you want to have a full blown license...go open your big wallet. if you are OK with VERY limited licensing, you can check with your sales rep and see if you are eligible for NFR Licenses

Yep, 50% of list is your typical option. However remember that you don't HAVE to buy the same license level that you have in prod. So even if you have an NPM SLX (unlimited) license, you can ask for the lab pricing on NPM SL100, which is $2895 (but $1447.50 for a lab license).

I agree with adatole that you do not need an SLX as DEV/TEST, however I expect a different offer from a sales rep than 50% off list... a good sales rep would talk and walk you through the options and not smell another hot-shot-big-deal for a quick sale
My Solarwinds sales person is all about the sale he could care less about the end users. I have asked him for quotes on multiple things and told him we will get back to you and I usually end up with daily phone calls for 2 weeks that I generally ignore. I asked him about this yesterday and he called today asking what he could quote. I told him again that we will get back to him when we are ready. I have been in IT for 15 years and can tell when I get a sales person that is after the sale or the sales person that actually wants to understand my business. Again just my $.02.
Installed 12.4 NPM, SAM, VNQM in my lab last week onto existing SQL database the DBA had built for me. Installed as DB Owner with no issues. Don't own a lab license for NTA so didn't test it.
Tried to install NPM, SAM, VNQM and NTA in my production environment using two existing databases the DBA built for me as DB Owner and the install failed in the middle, stuck. Can't back out, can't go forward. Server dead. Need to restore server from backup and try again.

The license is valid for 1 year. you pay a small amount per License, I don't know how much you need to pay. It depends on your engagement with Solarwinds if they waive the fee or give you a discount.
