Alert on (lack of) SNMP traffic

Hi,
I don't know if this has already been described ore discussed bud let me try anyway.

On a node we monitor disks etc. etc.
If after a reboot the SNMP service of this node is not started (due to unknown issues and yes it is configured as automatically) than we do not get any alerts on the lack of SNMP traffic or lack of data about the disks.

Is their any feature or alert that can handle this for us without being depended on persons looking at the dashboards.

If you have the Application Performance Monitor module, you can monitor the SNMP process and alert if it isn't up (or doesn't come back up). I am assuming you don't have this module though.

When the node comes back up and SNMP isn't working, are there any monitored items that are in the "unknown" state? If so, you could alert on that.

You can alert based on the interface being in an unknown state. This will trigger whenever SNMP doesn't respond.
