Can have or does have? Can be dropped?
Does this indicate I am missing something on my newly installed poller?
It looks like DPA is slightly differant. I've just had a quick scan of the admin guide and found this:
http://www.solarwinds.com/documentation/dpa/docs/DPAAdministratorGuide.pdf
And on page 46 the title: Link together separate DPA servers
Hope that helps.
Which modules do you have installed on your app server (it's the text at the bottom of the display)
Did you install additional pollers for all of the modules (i.e. if you have NPM and NCM to you run the additional poller install for BOTH NPM and NCM)
I installed the bundle which according to Solarwinds websitecontains this:
Orion Additional Polling Engine – Bundle, Includes: NPM, SAM, NCM, WPM, VNQM, NTA, and UDT Additional Polling Engine files
But actually installs this:
From the bottom of the primary NPM server:
Orion Platform 2016.1.5300, VNQM 4.2.4, NCM 7.5, NPM 12.0, DPA 10.0.1, QoE 2.1.0, NTA 4.2.0, IVIM 2.1.2, SAM 6.2.4, NetPath 1.0
I don't see an option to install DPA on the poller.
Orion Platform 2016.1.5300, VNQM 4.2.4, SAM 6.2.4, NCM 7.5, IVIM 2.1.2, QoE 2.1.0, NetPath 1.0, NPM 12.0, NTA 4.2.0
Removed the unneeded DPA integration module from primary NPM server. That solved the problem
TIL: as part of support ticket 1094665 the message "The poling engine you are trying to assign the selected nodes can have a different suite of installed modules. Some types of objects can be dropped from monitoring." is normal and uses the word "can" as to indicate there may be a problem or may not be a problem. I guess I will stop comparing the software versions on the poller and primary.....
UGH
Is poling the right word here or should it be polling? I was going to post about this suspected typo when using the Network Sonar and my search brought me here.
I wouldn't worry too much about this, i've seen this a few times. It only really causes a problem if applications are wildly out of sync, (version wise). Simply inspect a node added to both pollers and you should be able to see if anything is missing.
I think it's a bug in 12.0.1 and NCM 7.5x where the module versions are note quite synchronized properly between them.
i.e. the main poller didn't know that NCM 7.5 was installed on the Additional polling engines -- check the JSON blob in OrionServers.
I think I managed to cause a sync of this by visiting the advanced configuration page and setting a value there that caused the information to sync.
