All,
Is there a way to get Smokeping like functionality into Orion NPM?
My gut reaction is "no" - wrong tool for the job. But tell me (us) more about what you are trying to accomplish and maybe there's a happy middle ground.
Hi There,
Looks like an old/dead thread, but i have the same question.
I would like to know whether there is simple way to set up a smokeping type view from our central management environment to remote locations..
e.g. poll a non-managed device every 15mins and report this in a graph, where we have a graph for each monitored endpoint.
Then, ideally present this under a 'tab' somewhere..
Not sure if it helps but there are two polling methods for external or non-managed resources...
When you are adding a node you can choose Status Only: ICMP or External Node:
Status Only is useful for devices you don't manage i.e. no SNMP or WMI access but where you need up time stats.
External allows you to create a node that is not collecting any stats in and of itself but that you could apply a SAM template to in order to monitor the application running on it.
Also if you have a smokeping server setup already going -- you could add an external website resource as a menu item under say for example the NPM tab if that's a possible option for you. I used that for MRTG until we decom'd that.
Perhaps a perfstack view?
Great idea - i have both in place now, Nodes added and being ping'd, also added external link for our smokeping server.
Thanks :-)
