Cisco Hardware Alerting

I'm looking for some info on monitoring and alerting on cisco hardware failures.

We discovered in syslog that a fan on a router at a remote site is bad. This caught us offguard and want to prevent this in the future. I did some digging on Cisco's site but haven't had any luck yet. I'm just looking for any OID info to get started (powersuppply, fan, etc). Or a good place to find this info.

In case you can't find what you need in the Content Exchange, I think these oids are what you're looking for:

Temperature Status: 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.13.1.3

Fan Status: 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.13.1.4

Power Supply Status: 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.13.1.5

Those are all tables, so they should have all the info you need. I tested it on a 2851 router, so I would think they should be just fine on your other devices.

I guess it depends on the model of routers you have.

What type of device is it?

Also, don't forget to look through Content Exchange for UnDPs for Cisco hardware items -- there are lots of pollers in there already. You might find there's one that works for you.

The device I'm looking at now is a 3825 but we have a number of different models (3800,2811,1800) also switches.

Along the top of the page you should see some boxes -- 'Forums & Spaces", "Free trials & Tools" ... "Content Exchange". Click on content exchange, then under NPM Content click Universal Device Pollers

Awesome this helped me get started. I set up the Poller and tested alerts successfully using this. I also found a good number of OID's i can use to monitor, just need to see what makes sense.
