I did my best to search for an answer but my question is pretty vague.
Background: I run a 120 some odd site network (changes monthly it seems) across the U.S. I only monitor my data center equipment and each router at the remote sites.
All of my alerts are Basic but include any relevent information so my help desk can ping the router, call the site to confirm power and then open a ticket with the provider (in my case AT&T) if needed. The outage time is garnered from the timestamp on the email.
Alert: HCOM-T1 is Down.
Site Information:
MIS T1 Support: 888-613-6330 Option 2-1-1 .
Circuit ID & IP: DHEC.123456 12.12.12.12 .
Contact #: 713-555-1212 .
Inside IP Address: 10.8.42.254 .
When the site comes back up, we again get a Basic alert that only contains the message and the last reboot time:
Reset: HCOM-T1 is Up
Last reboot: Wednesday, September 17, 2008 07:03 AM
Issue: As the Reboot Status is updated every 10 minutes with the SNMP poll, often a site will show an incorrect reboot time which leads me to believe there is a Circuit issue rather than Power.
So now to my question: Does Orion have the ability to receive emails and generate predetermined reports based on the email? I would like to send an email back to my Orion box and request a reboot status on all routers (or whatever my report may contain).
There are quite a few canned reports I can create for center managers to check on the status of their site or give upper management the ability to generate availability reports at any given time.
does this make sense?
