No Web Page Auto Lockout

Has anyone been able to create an account that never gets logged out? I have created a web page for a service desk to monitor the network 24X7 But the operators have to log out and then back in. My goal is to have the web page always available for them and refreshing without any restarts?

Is it possible to accomplish this by adding some web batch script or VB script??

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

We have the same needs. We have the Orion web pages up on projectors for our NOC and while we do use it throughout the day, overnight and on weekends we do get the timeouts where we have to log back in.

I recall that back in 6.x that we had the web page up 24 / 7 and never had to log in. We can't seem to replicate that setting on Orion 7.x.

I have kept the web page running over the weekend, and it is still logged in.
This is using the NT Passthru authentication where I have logged on using my Windows
username, password & domain. As long as you are logged onto the workstation, your
web browser should re-authenticate automatically when the login time expires.

Make sure you have it setup so that it does not prompt for a username or password when
you fire up your browser. The login info should be passed to the IIS server directly from
your Windows workstation NTLM authentication.

Thanks for the reply.... My problem is that the web server and the orion application are on a remote server in our data center and the operators who monitor the network 24X7 are in a different room using a web browser from a different PC. This is why I need the account that they use to never automatically log them out. Can the NTLM authentication be passed from a remote web browser?

NTLM can work with Orion provided you're not doing anything funky with usernames. It's discussed in-depth in the Automatic Login section of the administrative manual.

One thing I have observed is that the auto-logout is based on activity, so if you have a page auto-refresh every 5 minutes or so, the account should never get logged out.

I think the SW Session Timeout setting may override the auto-refresh. We auto refresh, however still get logged out. I just today raised the value to from 60 to 1440 minutes (the max, one day)... We'll see...

My Orion web session does not timeout - ever.

Since this seems to be an ongoing issue for many, here is how I have it setup;

The Orion server is part of(built in) the same Windows domain that all PC users login to.
Then setup the Orion IIS web authentication as per the documentation:

Username - domain\username
Password - "abc123" (this password only gets used if you logout using the menu item in the toolbar and you get the Orion login page. This is where your web session will timeout.)

Now when I access the web page from a Windows PC, on which I have logged into the domain,
my username, password & domain is automatically passed through to the server and I get logged onto the web server directly, without a Login Page.

If I use the FQDN of the server in the URL, I get a separate "Windows" login pop-up box.
Here I have to enter my Windows username, Password and domain. Then I get direct access to the home page with unlimited timeout. If I use just the WINS name - non-FQDN Orionserver/.../View.asp
then I get logged in from my Windows PC with no login prompt whatsoever, and have unlimited timeout as well.

If either your server of PC is not part of the same domain, then you cannot use this method of authentication, and you are stuck with the timeout values defined on the admin web page settings menu.
