I posted this here, but the thread does not show up in the forum (I think the OP deleted the thread starter)
I have a problem adding non-Cisco devices to Orion.
Specifically I have SystemEdge, NetApp and Radware devices (note; SystemEdge replaces Net-SNMP on 'nix devices).
Here is the rub:
I have added both the SysEdge and Radware device types in our lab to Orion
When adding the production devices in Orion V8.1, I get the "node does not respond with the community string" rejection popup.
Yet I CAN poll all three device types with SNMP from the same Orion server using IP Network Browser!
To add even more mystery to this dilemma, if I open the node details for one of the lab devices that I am successfully polling and change the IP address and community string to one of the "unpollable" devices, I am able to poll and list resources for that production device.
It seems that if the device does not reply to the default - System OID - 1.3.6.1.2.1.1, you cannot add the device to Orion.
However, if you have an existing device and change the IP and SNMP string it bypasses this check?
Here are the System OIDs of these 3 devices (from the Engineers Toolset - IP Network Browser):
Network Appliance Corporation - Description: NetApp Release 7.2.4: Fri Nov 16 00:51:11 PST 2007 - sysObjectID: 1.3.6.1.4.1.789.2.3
RND - Description: Content Inspection Director - sysObjectID: 1.3.6.1.4.1.789.2.3
Empire Technologies Inc. - Description: Linux SystemEDGE Management Agent, Concord Communications, Inc. - sysObjectID: 1.3.6.1.4.1.546
Here are the OIDs listed on the 2 lab devices which do work in Orion;
System OID 1.3.6.1.4.1.546
Vendor Unknown
Machine Type Empire Technologies Inc.
Description Linux SystemEDGE Management Agent, Concord Communications, Inc.
System OID 1.3.6.1.4.1.89.1.1.62.14
Vendor RND
Machine Type RND
Description Content Inspection Director
(I've been unable to add a NetApp device to Orion - yet).
Has anyone else run into this issue?
<EDIT>
I've sniffed the NIC on my Orion server and see the following get request in WireShark for the unpollable nodes;
name: 1.3.6.1.2.1.1.2.0 (SNMPv2-MIB::sysObjectID.0)
Note - I have set it to poll with SNMP V1
