Where should I save a folder of custom icons so they will be visible in the graphic library of Network Atlas?
excellent, on 2008, that is:
APPDATA=C:\Users\<logged in user>\AppData\Roaming
thanks
its in the install folder::
%solarwinds%\orion\network atlas\maps\netobjects\scaleable\<your folder>\<your icons>
the correct way to do that is to go to the folder "Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\SolarWinds\NetworkAtlas\Maps\Orion\localhost\" on the server where the Orion is running and create a new folder "NetObjects" and one more folder "User Graphics" in it. Then copy your pictures into it, so the path is "Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\SolarWinds\NetworkAtlas\Maps\Orion\localhost\NetObjects\User Graphics".
After the pictures are there, start Network Atlas (still on the same server) and the pictures will be uploaded to your database automatically. You will find the custom graphics in the Select Graphic window in the User Graphics folder.
When the Network Atlas is started, you may connect also from other computers and the graphics will still be available.
If you use the way described by njoylif above, the pictures will not be synchronized to the database and will not be available on other machines. They also may not be displayed on the website.
Also please not that this works only for 9.5 SP3 and higher.
Here's a previous thread where some folks were discussing the same thing. I'm including it because there's some discussion of how you have to name the graphics files so that network atlas recognizes which icon to associate with different statuses.
i thought it was crappy that you had to put the icons on every system for NA to show them properly, thanks for the update and sorry for the mis-information.
what is the path for windows 2008 server?
they do it a bit differently and I can't figure out exactly where it needs to go for this to work.
Thanks much!
Not sure exactly, try running command "%APPDATA%" (without the quotes) to find out.
