NPM cpu usage and sql server memory usage

I am running the latest nmp 7.8.5 on a single win 2003 server with the sql running on the same box. I upgraded yesterday but have been having an interesting problem for about a month now. As the day progresses my server cpu usages grows and npm slows down. At the same time the pf usage continually grows until I start to run out of available memory. If I stop the sql the pf ussage drops back down and when I restart the sql it is ok for a couple of hours then gradually grows up again. The npm cpu usage starts to do the same kind of thing. The cpu usage grows until it is peaking up to 80 -90 % and then I start to loose stats. Sometimes data collection stops during the night and I have to stop the services and restart them. Anyone experience this or have any insight. Oh yes also about the same time that this started happening my syslog server stopped as well and now I can't get it going again. Thanks

The CPU is most likely running high because the Orion Polling Engine has not been tuned. I recommend checking out the Polling Engine Tuning portion of the Orion Admin Guide at www.solarwinds.net/.../Tuning.htm.

By design, SQL will use all available memory. This helps SQL perform optimally. I recommend checking out the following Knowledge Base entry for more assistance support.solarwinds.net/.../ProblemDetail.cfm

If you are using the MSDE version of SQL that is provided with Orion, you may want to check out the size of the database. The MSDE version of SQL has a 2GB limit. If Syslog is set to collect messages from devices like firewalls, then the database can fill up really quickly.
