Alerts and sounds

Hi,

I'm new and possible a little confused. We have a solarwinds NPM gui installed and i have configured the alerts manager to play an wav file when a node goes down. I have connected the output of the workstation we use to a speaker and i get no audible alarm when a node goes down. If i play a sound clip from the same workstation i get sound output through the speakers so i know thats ok.

I would have tested it plugged into the server but the server has no audio out.

Am i missing something fundamental ? Should the workstation which its browser is pointed at the server showing the gui not also get sent an audible alarm ?

Try this - Alert service sometimes need to check the box to interact with desktop. So go to the Windows Services and double click on the SolarWinds Alerting Engine and under Log On tab choose the checkbox to allow this.

I have just gone to the solarwinds server and enabled the tick in the box. I then stopped and started the service with no joy. I then tried restarting the server and still it doesnt give any sound from the workstation when the a node goes down.

NB I have a speaker connected to the workstation and not the server. And the wav file i reference in the alert tab is held on the server and not mapped to the workstation (either way i have had no joy!!!!!!)

Any more ideas ?
