Are you trying to use your vCenter credentials? Are the credentials you are trying to use assigned to each of those ESX servers?

I have the same problem. I had created local Linux accounts on each esx servers and still have the same issue. Are we suppose to create and use accounts in vCenter instead? Root is a super user account so it is against policy to use it as a service account.

Create a new user within each ESX server and not within vCenter and give the account Read Only permissions. It is best to use a local account and not AD.
