Checkpoint SG80 - Machine Type not recognised

We have a few Checkpoint SG80 firewalls and in the latest firmware release they now have SNMP support. The issue we have is that after adding them to NPM they appear as machine type net-snmp - Linux. We have other Nokia (Checkpoint) firewalls added to NPM and they apppear correctly, it just seems to be the SG80's which don't.

Is there any way to get these devices to be correct identified ?

We are running NPM 10.2.2

What you are seeing is likely due to the fact that the SysObjectID for the Checkpoint SG80 is not present in a file named "SWDiscovery.cfg". Search that file for the keyword "checkpoint" and I suspect you will find that it is not found. The SWDiscovery.cfg file is the one that Orion uses to resolve the vendor. Unfortunately, that file is only updated 1-2 times per year at major version releases.

Has that changed SolarWinds? If all I ahve said is correct, you will have to use the Universal Device Poller tool to create a custom node poller for the SysObjectID and assign it to the device, then display it on the web page.

Hi Borgan and theknat-

SInce the device is forced into the NET-SNMP Object Identifier, how does one force the custom poller view to display when we want to view the Node details? I know this sound n00b, but I am not finding this at the moment.

We figured it out! There is the .conf file to update. One needs to update it with the correct trailing OID string. You then just force a re-poll and Boom, it recognizes it as a Checkpoint device, woo haa!
