SolarWinds Orion Information Service - Documentation ?

Hi,

We would like to display Solarwinds node data (status, availability,...) in one of our business applications. I was wondering if this is possible to do that using the Orion Information Service (and if there is any available documentation/reference) or if it needs to be done by directly accessing the database ?
