Can we install the solarwinds modules on new server with existing Licence (for test Environment)?

Hi All,

We have SolarWinds license for Test (limited )and Prod. (unlimited license) Environment. We have limited license for the test environment, can we install the same software on new 2 servers? or do we need to purchase a new license for the test environment? As per my knowledge, we can do the same but will have to disable the license from existing servers. please correct me if I am wrong.

Apart from this please also let me know, can we use existing test environment database or need to make one more database?

Current versions.

are you referring to migration of existing to new setup? i am asking this becoz u have mentioned abt licensing..

Hi, Yes, I want to know about new setup for test environment. I think for migration perspective, will have to suspend the license on existing server and reactivate the same license on new servers.

You can only use your license on a single instance at a time. So you can spin up a new environment on a 30 day evaluation, and then once it is built and ready to migrate you can deactivate the license from your old environment and apply it to the new one.

So as stated in the test environment you will get 30 days and you will need to create a separate DB either blank or you can do a backup and restore of your current environment if your end goal is to test out upgrading to the newest versions.

also, beware that if you are going to upgrade to NTA 4.4 you will need to install SQL Server 2016 SP1 or above there are a lot of great new features in the modules that you have I have attached a cheat sheet with most of the new features for all the modules.

Actually, we want to add 2 more serves in our test environment So basically will have to purchase the license or existing test environment become the main polling engine and can buy a 2 additional poller software...? currently we have a single server in the test environment with following license capacity : (NetFlow module for Orion SL100, Network Performance Monitor - SL100 NPM , Server & Application Monitor - A150 SAM , Storage Manager v6.0 (up to 25 disks) STM , User Device Tracker v3 - UT2500 UDT , VoIP and Network Quality Manager v4 - SLA5 VNQM, Web Performance Monitor v2 - WP5 WPM )

Yes if you want to add Additional Poller or Additional Webserver to your lab you will need a license but sadly they only come in one size so not many people use them in labs.
