NPM SO HEAVY

Dear All,

After upgrading the NPM Module to the last version the system start to be really heavy during browsing and preparing reports.

does anyone face the same issue, and whats your recommendation guys to solve this case???

the end user is asking me to downgrade the system but i told him that its not possible.

kindly let me know if you faced or solved this issue before.

Hi,

there could be a number of reasons really why your system is slow the main reason for the performance is on the SQL box its self. that being said other factors can play a role in the performance. please take a read of some of the below.

what i tend todo is keep an eye on the logs see what logs are being updating frequently you can normally tell from here if you have a problem my practice is if an Orion log is updating frequently check that bad boy out see what errors warnings you are getting the Orion logs are located (not at my desk) but i think c:/solarwinds/orion/logs

what i would suggest also is to assign the SAM Template to your Orion server this will help identifying issues.

final point is:

check your data retention periods if you are retaining to much data from traps and syslogs this can cause a degrade in service.

check the orion event viewer you might just have tones of DCOM errors.

still no luck from all of the above log a ticket with the support guys at SolarWinds some good guys over there

Hi Moha,

The first place i would look is the fragmentation on the database, when was the last time indexing ran. Is your database on the same server as orion? Do you have nta and if so, is it on the same server? What is your license and how many interfaces are you monitoring. I have used npm 12 and fund it way faster than 11.5.3. Also if virtual, what array or hardware is it running on?

known issue with upgrading to NPM 12 is high CPU utilization, the 1st thing to do is disable the trap service, next clear the temp folder.
