Additional Polling Engine Node Monitoring

Hi,

If you deploy an additional polling engine at a customer site to monitor nodes can SolarWinds cope with duplicate private IP address ranges if the Main Poller is already monitoring a node on that IP address?

In theory we would connect to the additional poller at the customer site over a VPN.

Yes, in fact an additional poller is the only way one can monitor different nodes with the same IP address.

I believe there is a limited-entity count licence for exactly this purpose.

yes, when you add an IP and it is detected on the database, you can only place that node/device on a different polling engine

I am just fishing for a bit of knowledge and understanding... never done this myself yet, but will be doing shortly. Is VPN compulsory or this is just a way of accessing polling engine securely?

The VPN is not compulsory but is a good way of securing the traffic like you say.
