Fix the names of all the devices

So after NPM scanned the network and added all the devices it placed the name of the device using the FQDN. Since i have only one domain and about 300 devices its no added benefit to have that info in the name but it does take away important screen real estate and map space.

So i wanted to find out if there is a script or a query i can run that would truncate the names cutoff the .companyname.com from all the devices?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

do note that:

The caption field is auto populated and will be overwritten if you change, so...

Basically, I created a new column called HName (originally used HostName, but Netflow uses that and it caused issues).

Is there a way to update the maps with the new name or do i need to do this manually? I am running the latest version.

If you are using MACROs for your map labels (like ${Caption}), they will auto update as they pull from the DB.

if you just typed the name into a label, you will have to edit them - and I recommend using macros
