How to Verify Alert Rules are Associated to Correct Nodes, Components, Interfaces, etc...

Maybe I am missing something, I have built rules and I want to verify they are associated to the correct components, nodes, interfaces, hardware, application but I don't see a way to verify the query is matching on what I have written the rule for.  I know I can simulate an action but this isn't verify my alert rules are written correctly its just making sure my email alert works.  Is there a way to do this?  For nodes I am just changing the IP address to make sure my new Alert Rules are written correctly to match the implied rule I created.  I wish there was a way to simulate an outage on nodes, interfaces, applications, etc.. Any one have a suggestion on how to do this?  Thanks

Ok, thanks for the reply.  I understand that, so create groups with the same conditions as the alert rule will give me an idea which nodes the alert rule will apply to.  I see the groups are granular so you can also do this with other objects as well.  Thanks for the information.

If your alert condition referenced a group you created, it would be easy to validate group members. Sticking a custom property in the mix (which itself could be the condition for group membership) essentially gives you what you are asking.  In some cases, that is worth the effort. Sometimes I monitor my laptop and break that connectivity.
