Adding Custom HTML for a device-specific link

I have a number of APC units - both UPS' and Env. Monitors - and until the SNMP GetTable feature is implemented, the only real way I can see all of the variables is to use the embedded web server in these devices. I can add a direct link in the Node View, but I would have to customize a page for every device with the device's specific URL. I'm thinking (a dangerous thing) that some custom HTML code would be appropriate that could pull the IP address of the node being viewed, embed the address in a string of https://<your IP address here>:<any special ports> and allow me to use this across all the devices I have with embedded web pages.

If there are other ideas to accomplish this, I would welcome them as well.

Please note - I am not a web programmer (and I don't even play one on TV!) but I am good at cutting, pasting and tweaking.

Make sure you are using curly brackets not parenthesis. I have used it with https:// many times.

Much easier than that. When you look at the node details page for one of your APC's you should see a row of 5 small icons to the far right of the Node name at the top of the View. The first one is a blue circle with an arrow in it. Selecting this icon will bring up a browser wind point to the IP address fo the device. This should bring up you imbedded web sites on these or any units with a built-in website.

You can do exactly what you are proposing by adding the User Defined Links resource (under Miscellenous) to your Node Detail view. In one of the links you can use the following: http://${IP_Address}:1187 as an example (use any port you wish). I will usually also set this to open in a new window. This only works on a Node Detail view since it needs to focus on a particular node and the IP_Address field resides in the Nodes table. Several are using this to provide a link to Dell OpenManage sites hosted on the monitored servers.

I believe Ishikawa suggested using the web browse icon which is the blue circle with a white arrow in the upper right corner of the Node Detail web view. This works well, but points to the default port of 80. If you need to go to another port the user defined links is a quick and easy way to accomplish it.

Thanks to both for your quick replies. Due to internal security requirements, we have to use https: instead of http:. When I tried the second solution, the string was not pulling the IP Address - instead the link just showed https://$(IP_Address)/

I am testing this out on 8.5b3 SL100 at this time. I have not tried it on my production 8.1 SLX environment yet.
